Bruce S. Munn

July 10, 1933 — January 25, 2012

Bruce S. Munn, 78, husband of Bonnie Bonniwell Munn and a resident of Wachapreague, VA, passed away Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at his residence. A native of Wellesley Hills, MA, he was the son of the late Percival J. Munn and the late Greta Cady Munn. Mr. Munn received a BA degree from University of Maine and a MBA degree from Babson College. He was a life member of Sigma Chi Fraternity, Rho Rho Chapter, served as a 1st Lt. in the United States Marine Corps, and was a licensed Virginia Realtor. Mr. Munn started his harness racing career in 1963 as assistant race secretary at Liberty Bell Park, Philadelphia, PA, where he became program director in 1971. He worked as the racing secretary at Suffolk Downs also in 1971 and then worked at Brandywine Raceway and Dover Downs (1969-1976) and Monticello Raceway (1978-1990) in the capacity of racing secretary. In 1991, Mr. Munn spent a season as general manager of Buffalo Raceway. Leaving there, he went back to his racing secretary roots at Harrington Raceway, retiring in 2006. Mr. Munn was past president and a life member of the American Harness Racing Secretaries organization and past director of the United States Trotting Association. He was an avid New England Patriots and Boston Red Sox fan. In addition to his wife, he survived by three children, Joe Richardson of Hacks Neck, VA, Jeffrey B. Munn of Seaford, DE, Lara Meyer and her husband, Paul, of New York; a daughter-in-law, Grace Richardson of Craddockville, VA; a niece, Gail Colglaizer and her husband, David, of Londonderry, NH; five grandchildren, Cheryl, Joe Jr., Macy, Tanner, and Dane. Mr. Munn was predeceased by a sister, Beverly Nessell. A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 28, 2012 at 2:00 PM at Doughty Funeral Home with the Rev. Judith Worthington officiating.
