Benjamin Coley Bonniwell, Sr.

January 6, 1935 — January 15, 2016

Benjamin Coley Bonniwell, Sr., 81, husband of the late Connie Duer Bonniwell and a resident of Belle Haven, VA, passed away Friday, January 15, 2016 at his residence. A native of Harborton, VA, he was the son of the late Charles Otho Bonniwell and the late Virginia Hutchinson Bonniwell. He was retired from A&P and Meatland, a United States Army Veteran having served in the 7th Infantry "Bayonet" Division in Korea and a member of Belle Haven United Methodist Church.

He is survived by four children, Gayle Ashby, Benjie Bonniwell, Rodney Bonniwell and his fiancé, Traci Pidgeon, Paula Atkinson and her husband, J.P., all of Belle Haven; four sisters, Kathleen "Sis" Ames of Portsmouth, VA, Clare Budd and her husband, Walter, of Hacksneck, VA, June Custis of Craddockville, VA, Patty Bonniwell of Harborton; two sisters-in-law, June D. Charnock of Belle Haven, Nancy Marshall of Exmore, VA; nine grandchildren, Mandi Wessells and her husband, Bert, Andi Rice, Crystal Atkinson Smith and her husband, Alex, Cole Bonniwell, Kate Bonniwell, Parke Atkinson, Andrew Ashby, R.J. Bonniwell, Hunter Bonniwell; five great grandchildren, Logan, Lucas, Benjamin, Harper, Nora and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Eugene Bonniwell and Sidney Bonniwell.

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, January 17, 2016 at 2:00 PM at Doughty Funeral Home with Reverend Bobby Parks officiating. Interment will follow in Belle Haven Cemetery. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the American Legion Post #56, Post Office Box 357, Cheriton, VA 23316.
