Audell D. Davis, 82, who loved working with children and was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer on Saturday, July 1, 2006, at her home in Davis Wharf, VA. She is survived by her faithful husband of 51 years, William C. Davis. She is also survived by her sons, Robert A. Davis of Virginia Beach; Steven W. Davis and his wife, Teresa, of Montross, VA; and The Rev. Scott E. Davis and his wife, Laurie, of Alexandria, VA; six grandchildren: Daniel C. Davis, Jessica Kauffman Brown, Emily F. Kauffman, Zoe E. Davis, Sarah E. Davis, and Jordan S. Davis; two great grandchildren: Kalysta N. and Isabella M Brown, numerous nieces and nephews. She was the daughter of the late The Rev. Alvis J. Davis and Essie R. Davis; and the sister of the late Odie H. Davis and Alvis R. Davis.. Audell was born and educated in Davidson County,TN. She was the daughter of a Methodist minister and lived throughout middle TN before attending Emory and Henry College, Emory, VA, and later received an AB and a MA degree from Scarritt College for Christian Workers, Nashville. Audell served as a Director of Christian Education in Methodist churches in VA, AL and SC, and retired as a special education teacher in Accomack County for 19 years. A member of Epworth United Methodist Church, Audell had a comprehensive knowledge of all levels of The UMC, was a member of the United Methodist Women, past president of Church Women United, and was a past president and fifty year member of the Woman's Club of Accomack County. She served on the committee that established Occohannock-On-The-Bay, a ministry of the Eastern Shore District of The UMC, and worked in the camp for many years. She served on the Board of Trustees of the Eastern Shore Community College, Melfa, VA, from 1987-1991, and was a Cub Scout leader for many years. The family will receive friends at the Doughty Funeral Home, Exmore, VA, on Tuesday, July 4, 2006, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. A service to celebrate her life will be conducted Wednesday, July 5, 2006 at 4 pm, at the Epworth United Methodist Church, Willis Wharf Road, Exmore, VA, with The Rev. Elizabeth P. Freund and The Rev. Charles Shumate officiating, interment will follow in the Davis Family Cemetery, Davis Wharf. Memorial gifts may be made to Shore Memorial Cancer Center, P.O.
