Asa Wayne Mears
August 7, 1939 — June 25, 2014
Asa Wayne Mears, 74, husband of Nancy Turner Mears and a resident of Nassawadox, VA, passed away Wednesday, June 25, 2014 at Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital in Nassawadox. A native of Wachapreague, VA, he was the son of the late Paul Mears and the late Bessie Connor Mears. He was a retired contract specialist for Wallops N.A.S.A., former Mayor of Town of Nassawadox, Past Governor and member of Exmore Moose Lodge #683, past member of Community Fire Company, member of Franktown United Methodist Church and member of Franktown United Methodist Church Choir. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two children, Jennifer Rippon and her husband, Tom, of Nassawadox, Jeffrey Mears and his wife, Susan, of Belle Haven, VA; a sister, Fern Ward of Wachapreague; five grandchildren, Wilson Rippon, Sarah Mears, Lauren Mears, Emily Rippon, Daniel Mears and numerous nieces and nephews. A celebration of life service will be conducted Friday, June 27, 2014 at 4:00 PM at Franktown United Methodist Church with Reverend Judith Worthington officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Franktown United Methodist Church Choir, P. O. Box 130, Franktown, VA 23354.
