Arthur C. Devletian

January 16, 1926 — June 30, 2008

Arthur C. Devletian, 82, of Cape Charles, passed away at his home Monday, June 30, 2008, after a brave battle with colon cancer. Born in East Lansing, MI, he entered the Navy at age 17, served on the USS Dutchess, and fought in the Pacific Theatre in World War II. He attended Michigan A & M on the GI Bill where he studied Police Administration. He lived in Hampton Roads area for over fifty years, working as a private investigator, a math teacher, a maintenance supervisor, and a chemical engineer. He was also a disc jockey at WMBG where he was known as The Old Swinger. His favorite job was serving as the first master leathercraftsman for Colonial Williamsburg. He was president of the Virginia Leathercrafters' Guild, where he also taught classes. His favorite activity was lawn bowling, and he traveled with the Williamsburg Inn Lawn - Bowling Club to tournaments around the East Coast until he was well into his 70s. Survivors include his children, Andie Lee Morgan of Cape Charles, Paige Devletian of Surry, Gary Devletian of Winchester, and Bey Devletian of New York City as well as five extraordinary grandchildren. At Mr. Devletian's request, no funeral services will be held. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, c/o Mrs. Benjamin Mears, P.O. Box 67, Eastville, Va. 23347.
