Archie Sidney Doughty, Jr., 89, husband of Jane Cutler Doughty and a resident of Quinby, VA, passed away Sunday, February 7, 2016 at Heritage Hall Healthcare in Nassawadox, VA. A native of Quinby, he was the son of the late Archie Sidney Doughty, Sr. and the late Blanche Wallace Doughty. Mr. Doughty served in the United States Navy, was a World War II wounded veteran and Purple Heart recipient. He was a retired charter boat captain, lifetime member and past commander of the V.F.W. Post 4856, past chairman of the Quinby Harbor Committee, 32nd Degree Mason, member of the Central Masonic Lodge #300 AF & AM, American Legion, D.A.V. and Smith Chapel United Methodist Church. Archie earned the friendship, admiration and respect of many Eastern Shore folks throughout his life by his selfless acts of kindness and assistance to others. He was appreciated and respected by hundreds of customers, up and down the east coast, who enjoyed a day or two each year fishing with him on his charter boat the "J-MAR".
In addition to his loving wife of 68 years, he is survived by a daughter, Margaret D. Porterfield and her companion, John Lyon, of Fairfax Station, VA; a grandson, Stephen W. Porterfield of Melfa, VA; a niece, Dixie Phillips Sammon and her husband, Jack, of Pennsville, NJ; a nephew, William Doughty Phillips and his wife, Marilyn, of Melfa and five great nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Hazel Doughty Phillips and Margaret Doughty Turner.
Funeral services with Military Honors will be conducted Saturday, February 13, 2016 at 3:00 PM at Doughty Funeral Home with Pastors Steve and Donna Doan officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post Office Box 99, Tasley, VA 23441.
