Anna Ingeborg Liden, 100, of Cape Charles, VA, passed away Monday, September 5, at Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Nassawadox, VA. A native of Elgin, IL, she was the daughter of the late John L. Skoog and the late Ida Seagren Skoog. Anna moved to Sylvania, Ohio, with her husband in 1964. During her later years she enjoyed living near her children and grandchildren in Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, New Mexico, Wisconsin and Virginia. A graduate of Plato Center High School, Anna attended Northern Illinois Teacher's College in DeKalb, IL and North Park College in Chicago, IL. She worked as an Inspector for the Elgin National Watch Company and as a Bank Teller at the 1st National Bank of Elgin and Lee Bank in Lee, Massachusetts. Anna was very proud of her Swedish heritage. Her passion was her family. She was a devoted, beloved mother who actively supported her children's educations and served their schools as a PTA President and a member of many school committees. She also served as parent representative on a special Commission on the Quality of Education for the State of Illinois. Throughout her life, Anna loved birds and other wildlife, wildflowers and the beauty of the outdoors. She was an avid reader and enjoyed listening to music, flower arranging, exploring antique shops and visiting the mountains of New Mexico and the shores of Lake Michigan and the Chesapeake Bay. Anna was a big sports fan; she spent a lot of time rooting for one of her family's and her own favorite sports teams...Redskins, Terps, Steelers, Wolverines, Bears, Packers and the Lobos! Having grown up on a farm, Anna's favorite pastime in recent years was regularly visiting and feeding the horses at Burton's Bayside Farm in Cheriton, VA. Anna was a devoted Christian and active member of the Swedish Covenant Church in Lily Lake, IL, the First Evangelical United Brethren Church in Elgin, IL, and Unity Church in several states. While living on the Eastern Shore, she regularly attended special services provided by the Cape Charles Baptist Church at Heritage Hall. Anna was married to Robert Emmanuel Liden who preceded her in death in 1997. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth Cheney and Eunice Swanberg; and two brothers, Carl and Gunnar Skoog. Anna is survived by her son, Craig Bradford Liden, MD, of Pittsburgh, PA; two daughters, Roberta Liden Newman of Cape Charles, VA and Katherine Liden of Albuquerque, NM; six grandchildren, Clayton Newman, Astrid Liden Church, Gunnar Liden, Atalie Ives- Garcia, Marie Paoli, and Isak Liden; and five great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 22, at 3:00 PM at Cape Charles Baptist Church with Pastor Russell Goodrich officiating and a reception to follow. Interment will be held at Baker's Cemetery in Lily Lake, IL in May.
