Anita Ruth Scanlan Mason Young passed away Thursday, April 10, 2014. She was born at Oakland Park near Exmore, VA, the daughter of James Gurber Scanlan and Stella Harris Scanlan, on May 30, 1928. Anita was christened Episcopalian in New York City and attended Baptist and Methodist Churches. She was the wife of the late William R. Mason, Jr. and the wife of the late Jacob Morris Young. Besides homemaker and mother, she retired from the medical field. In her past, Anita was licensed by the state of Virginia as a medical laboratory technician and licensed by the state of Virginia as an underwriter for life insurance. She worked at Northampton-Accomack Memorial Hospital. She retired from Eastern Shore Physicians and Surgeons. Anita is survived by a son, William R. Mason, III and his wife Linda; a daughter, Lynn Mason James and her husband, Michael; two brothers, James G. Scanlan, Jr. and his wife, Naomi, John Franklin Scanlan; sisters, Betty S. Turlington and the late Marian S. Freeman; four granddaughters, Stephanie L. Bogue and her husband, Junior; Stacie N. Smith and her husband Chris; Jamie D. Mason; Julie M. Hall and her husband, Tom; three great granddaughters, Sophia, Shelley, Sarah Bogue; several nieces and nephews; and cats, Muzzy and Vashy. A family graveside service was held for Anita on April 14, 2014. Donations in Anita's memory can be made to the Arthritis Foundation, 3805 Cutshaw Avenue, Suite #200, Richmond, VA 23230 or any charity of your choice.
