Alvin Dixon (Al) 73 of Califon, NJ died 15 Nov 2013 at Hunterdon Medical Center. He leaves behind his wife Janet Sweitzer Dixon; daughter Kelley Teabo; step sons Scott, John and Tim Sweitzer and 6 grandchildren; a brother James C. Dixon and nieces and nephews. He was born in Wilmington DE, son of James A. and Mollie M. Dixon. He graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute with a Civil Engineering degree. Big Al, as he was known to many, made his living as a pump salesman selling magnetic drive pumps and he retired from Dickow Pump Company in 2007. He was a National Guardsman, a Mason with Mansfield 36, an active member of the Lower Valley Presbyterian Church of Califon where he served as a trustee, was in the prayer group and taught Sunday School occasionally. Al was civic minded and volunteered in many capacities in all the communities in which he lived. He liked to tinker and always had a project going, and had talents in plumbing, electricity, carpentry and knife sharpening. He loved spending time with friends and family and thought of everyone as a potential friend. The viewing will be at Lower Valley Presbyterian Church of Califon Monday, November 18, 2013 at 5pm to 9pm and the funeral service will be on Tuesday, Nov 19, 2013 at 11:00am. A graveside service will be conducted Thursday, Nov 21, 2013 at 11:00am in Cape Charles Cemetery with Pastor Patricia Money officiating.
