Mr. Albert Colonna, 79, husband of Helen Wilds Colonna and a resident of Temperanceville, formerly of Cape Charles, passed away Sunday, July 29, 2007 at his residence surrounded by family and friends. Mr. Colonna, a native of Hadlock, was the beloved son of Sam and Olivia Richardson Colonna. Mr. Colonna was proud to serve in the Merchant Marines and the U.S. Army during WWII, stationed in Heidelberg, Germany as a topographical specialist. In his early years he worked in transportation as a truck driver, maintenance mechanic and at Holly Farms. Mentoring and sponsoring friends and family, Al shared unconditional love, life experience and strength with hope to serve others. Al enjoyed life, had a wonderful laugh and loved horse racing, shooting pool, playing cards and coin collecting. Other than his wife, Mr. Colonna is survived by a daughter, Patricia Anne Colonna of Englewood, FL, a son, David Matthew Colonna of Cheriton, VA, a grandson, David Matthew Colonna, II of Cheriton,VA. and a great grandson, David Matthew Colonna, III of Temperanceville, VA, two brothers, Donovan Colonna of Jamesville, VA and William Tyler Colonna of Onancock, VA, two sisters, Nina Grace Travis of Cheriton, VA and Georgia Arendts of Virginia Beach, VA, a niece Karen Wilds Schimmel of Fairhill, MD. Mr. Colonna was predeceased by a son, Eric T. Colonna, his brothers, Parks, Sam and Edward Colonna, his sisters, Olivia Scott and Myrtis Johnson. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, August 1, 2007 at 2:00 PM in Downings United Methodist Church in Oak Hall with Pastor John Sweeney officiating. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the service.
